Our Story

How Sengodu Foundation Began

On February 5, 2024, Sengodu Foundation was born from a profound commitment to justice and compassion — a belief that every individual in Tamil Nadu deserves dignity, opportunity, and the fundamental right to food, education, and healthcare.

Our founder, Arul Athiyappan, grew up witnessing the quiet struggles of families across Kallakurichi district. He saw children arrive at school unable to concentrate due to hunger, parents forced to make impossible choices between medicine and meals, and brilliant young minds abandoned by circumstance rather than capability. These weren't statistics — they were neighbors, friends, and fellow community members whose potential was being stifled by systemic poverty.

What began as modest weekend food distribution drives in Chinnasalem and neighboring villages evolved into a comprehensive movement for change. With each family served, we learned more about the interconnected challenges they faced: food insecurity linked to poor health outcomes, lack of education perpetuating poverty cycles, and agricultural struggles affecting entire village economies. Meaningful change required a holistic approach.

Today, Sengodu Foundation stands as a beacon of hope across multiple villages in Kallakurichi district, with our functional office now in Coimbatore. We serve hundreds of families through integrated programs spanning nutrition security, educational support, preventive healthcare, agricultural advancement, and community empowerment. We've mobilized over 100 volunteers, established partnerships with local institutions, and created sustainable systems that build pathways out of poverty — not just provide temporary relief.

Our vision extends to every corner of Tamil Nadu, and our commitment to the communities we serve remains unwavering. We are only at the beginning.

A Message of Purpose & Possibility

Dear Friends and Supporters,

When I founded Sengodu Foundation on February 5, 2024, in Kallakurichi district, I carried with me a vision forming throughout my entire life — a Tamil Nadu where no child goes to bed hungry, where education opens doors instead of closing them, and where quality healthcare is a birthright, not a privilege reserved for the fortunate.

I was raised in this beautiful district, surrounded by people of extraordinary strength and resilience. But I also learned that resilience should not be the price of basic dignity. Every family in our community deserves the opportunity to thrive, to dream, and to build futures free from the constraints of poverty.

Sengodu Foundation operates on three fundamental principles: compassion without condescension, transparency in all operations, and genuine partnership with the communities we serve. We don't arrive as outsiders with predetermined solutions. We listen, learn, and collaborate with community members to design programs that create sustainable, lasting transformation — not temporary relief.

This work is not mine alone. It belongs to every volunteer who dedicates their time, every donor who contributes their resources, every community member who trusts us with their challenges, and every supporter who believes in our shared vision.
